100 Years Ago... Another Game-Changing Election

History Rhymes
After the 1924 election results had been digested, they (the LaFollete family) drove back to LaFollete's home in Maple Bluff, Wisconsin late that night. In the car, the sons lamented that organized labor seemed to have deserted them in the election. Bob LaFollete snapped back, "We have had hard times but never the haunting fear of losing your job, of losing those paychecks that are all that stand between starvation for those workers and their families. Don't blame the folks, they just got scared."

Selling Moochelle in 2024...

...it's going to take the PT Barnum of Politics for Democratic Party Elites to Sell Moochelle as a Viable Candidate, which explains the return of Jon Stewart.

"No Daily Show Viewers, You Don't Need a Presidential Primary and Democratic Selection Process to Vet Your Candidate, Joe Biden's donors already DONE ALL THAT Hard Work FOR you!  You're ALL Just OUR candidate's Rubber Stamp and the LAUGH TRACK for the Trump Campaign!  And You all know which part of THAT We're "seriously" focused on!"

Two weeks before Jon Stewart announces his return to hosting The Daily Show until election day in November....

The president’s reelection effort is starting to fill out.

President Joe Biden’s campaign is tapping a veteran of Jon Stewart’s old show and a top aide from a progressive stalwart in the latest move to build out its national staff.

The reelection campaign is set to announce on Saturday two new hires, one to its research and one to its communications teams.

Andy Crystal, who previously led research at The Problem with Jon Stewart and Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, will be the campaign’s research director. Lauren Hitt, who most recently served as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) communications director, will be a senior national spokesperson for the campaign. Kevin Munoz, who was one of the first Biden reelection staffers, will be made senior national spokesperson.

Their hires, shared first with POLITICO, underscore the haste with which the reelection is now bringing operatives on board as the general election nears. The Biden campaign also announced battleground states director and top aides in North Carolina last week.

The hiring spree comes shortly after some Democratic operatives began complaining that the campaign had yet to build out its staffing operation, particularly in swing states, fast enough. The Biden campaign, at the time, downplayed those concerns, stressing that they were positioned to make new hires in key spots when the time was needed.

“We’re excited to welcome Andy and Lauren to the already talented and fierce communications team working to reelect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris,” Michael Tyler, Biden’s communications director, said in a statement shared with POLITICO. “I’m also proud to recognize Kevin’s invaluable role representing our campaign since launch and communicating the president’s vision directly to voters.”
Note: As an undergraduate, Lauren Hitt began her career working on the 2012 Obama re-election campaign.

The Curious and Mostly Unreported upon Case of the J6 Pipebombs

Andrea Widburg, "TUCKER CARLSON VIDEO: Did the government plant the pipe bomb at the DNC?"
Ever since January 6, 2021, Darren Beattie has been investigating the events of that day with the persistence of a bloodhound on the scent. One of the narratives that’s kept his attention is the story of the pipe bombs found at the RNC and DNC headquarters. Intriguingly, while the FBI has managed to use cell phones and videos to capture every grandma from Dubuque who set foot near the Capitol building, it’s been completely unable to catch that pipe bomber. According to Battie, that’s because the government already knows who set the pipe bomb: The government itself.

Beattie appeared on Tucker Carlson to dissect newly-released video of the scene and to explain why he believes the pipe bomb narrative is a hoax meant to discredit Trump supporters by implying that they unsuccessfully tried to blow up institutions hostile to Donald Trump (i.e., not just the DNC but also the RNC). Beattie makes a very good case.

The video footage, shot on January 6 by a camera installed across the street from the pertinent events, shows two SUVs parked right next to the DNC bench near which one of the pipe bombs was found. One SUV belongs to the D.C. cops, and one to the Secret Service. According to Beattie, they were working jointly on security that day.

In the video, we see a man wearing a backpack appear on the lower right side of the screen. Walking at a leisurely pace, he approaches the D.C. police, leans into the driver’s side window, and talks to someone. This is the moment, says Beattie, when he informed the police that he’d seen a pipe bomb. By the way, as this Blaze video shows, that man with the backpack was almost certainly a Capitol police officer:

What should happen at this moment is an absolute explosion of motion. After all, as Kamala Harris’s office finally acknowledged months later, the Vice President of the United States was in the DNC building. Moreover, the alleged bomb is within roughly 10 yards of the two SUVs. According to the DHS, ten yards is not far enough for safety:
If any type of bomb is suspected, typical recommendations are to keep all people at a minimum evacuation distance until authorized bomb disposal personnel arrive. For a pipe bomb, the US Department of Homeland Security recommends a minimum of 21 m (69 ft), and an outdoors distance of 366 m (1,201 ft).
Instead, a minute or so goes by while nothing happens. Then, police officers and Secret Service agents emerge at a leisurely pace from the SUVs and kind of stand around. A group of school children walks within feet of what law enforcement has been told is a pipe bomb, and the officers and agents do nothing at all. One of them eventually walks over and takes a photo of the pipe that may be a bomb. Only later does a robot defuse it.

I have a decent imagination, but I can’t think of more than two ways to account for the strange behavior the video shows. The first way is that the D.C. police and the Secret Service are as stupid and ineffective as the Keystone Kops, although they display lethargy where the Kops were all about kinetic energy. The second way is Darren Beattie’s way: The cops knew that the pipe bomb was a fake.

If the latter is true, what’s going on in our nation’s capital is more corrupt than any of us have ever imagined. This is a level of evil that is so over-the-top that, without the video evidence, it would be impossible to believe.

However, people are beginning to believe it. Very slowly, people are saying that the events of the last three years, along with the information slowly coming out in just the last months, are consistent with a government that is rotten to the core, a government that will do anything to destroy its political rivals, unconstrained by constitutional principles, the law, or moral decency.

Shakespeare once wrote that “something is rotten in the state of Denmark.” The state of Denmark, as it turns out, though, has nothing on the federal government in Washington, D.C.

ANCAP Dreams v. Neoliberal Hyperrealities

Roger Kimball, "The course of the American empire"
Instead of frank acknowledgment and robust action, Biden and his minders have retreated into Stalinist Newspeak
In the 1830s, the English-born American artist Thomas Cole painted an ambitious sequence of five large rectangular canvases delineating “The Course of Empire.” He began with “The Savage State,” which depicts the rude life of humans before the advent of letters, domestication and permanent architecture. “The Arcadian or Pastoral State” is marked by harmony and some early accoutrements of civilization. “The Consummation of Empire,” at fifty-one inches by seventy-six inches, is a third larger than its fellows. Here we see a sun-drenched landscape transformed by a panoply of classical architecture counterpointed by bustling commerce and a triumphal, if overripe, stateliness. Next comes “Destruction.” The skies are dark now, the people besieged by ravening hordes, the monuments broken and burning. A distant full moon presides over “Desolation,” the last canvas. The scene is populated by shaggy, shattered remnants of human ingenuity, vast blighted columns and porticos half overgrown by vegetation, not a human soul in sight. Ozymandias would be at home.

I have thought often about Cole’s painted morality tale these past months. Where do you suppose we are on the itinerary he traced? I’d say somewhere between “Consummation” and “Destruction.” Is the process inevitable, as Cole seems to have believed? There are heartening signs to suggest not.

Unfortunately, few of those signs are patent in the United States at the moment.

But just look at Argentina. As I write, Javier Milei, the new “anarcho-capitalist” president of Argentina, has embarked in earnest on a regimen of “shock therapy” for his troubled country. You think we have runaway inflation in the US? Well, we do. But it will soon be nearly 200 percent in Argentina.

Milei had barely taken office in December before he cut the government payroll by 5,000 jobs. He has abolished whole departments. He introduced a law legalizing the use of force for self-defense and decreed that welfare benefits would be stripped from anyone blocking traffic while protesting in the streets. He also banned the use of the word “free” to describe government largesse since the services are not “free.” On the contrary, they are paid for by the taxpayer. One commentator described this as “the most sensible law in world history.” Were it implemented in America, he noted, “the Democrat Party would literally not be able to campaign anymore.” Don’t hold your breath, though. Magical thinking obviates a multitude of unpalatable realities.

Lamenting “the hard decisions that will need to be made in coming weeks,” Milei told his supporters that “the goal is [to] start on the road to rebuilding our country, return freedom and autonomy to individuals and start to transform the enormous amount of regulations that have blocked, stalled and stopped economic growth.”

Instead of such frank acknowledgment and robust action, Joe Biden and his minders have retreated into Stalinist Newspeak. Everyone knows that civil society is frayed and tearing apart in America. Inflation and high interest rates are eating away at middle-class prosperity. The Southern border is a sort of Potemkin facsimile. Violent crime is out of control. The imperatives of woke ideology have undermined trust in our defining institutions from education and the media to churches and the military.

Joe Biden’s ostrich response is to insist that the media start reporting on the economy “the right way,” i.e., in a way that reflects well, if untruthfully, on the Biden administration. Pravda used to do the same thing. Most economists are predicting that the US economy will enter recession this year. But that unpleasant news is at odds with the happy pink unicorn tale that the Biden administration requires.

Meanwhile, Biden is also keen that Donald Trump be dealt with “the right way,” i.e., in a way that keeps him off the ballot. Otherwise, you see, people might vote for him, he might win, and therefore (therefore!) “Our Democracy™” might be undermined. The strategies are many. As I write, Trump faces more than ninety counts in lawfare cases in four separate persecutions, er, prosecutions.

The latest wheeze is for various states to declare that he cannot be on the ballot because of “his role” in the January 6 “insurrection.” The rationale was put forward in the third section of the Fourteenth Amendment, an 1868 post-Civil War instrument which excluded anyone who had “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against [the US government].” The clause was designed to prevent Confederate rebels who had served in the US government from holding office. But that origin was no impediment to its being twisted into service to harass Donald Trump.

In December, the Colorado Supreme Court was the first entity to rule that Trump was ineligible to appear on the state ballot. That bizarre attack on democracy — not to be confused with “Our Democracy™” — instantly elicited some portion of the contempt and ridicule it deserved. As was pointed out at the time, all seven members of the court are Democrats. But the four members who voted to exclude him from the ballot were Ivy-educated. The rest went to state schools. A few days after the ruling was announced, the Colorado secretary of state intervened to put Trump back on the ballot while appeals are pending.

The herd mentality took hold as if it were a Covid emergency. Next up was Shenna Bellows, Maine secretary of state, who excluded Trump from the ballot because of “his role in the January 6 attack on the Capitol.” Two questions: was J6 an “insurrection?” Answer: no. What was Donald Trump’s “role” in the events of that day? To urge his followers to proceed peacefully and eschew violence.

That contravenes The Narrative, however. It is characteristic of the movement from the late stages of the Consummation of Empire to its destruction that truth be sacrificed to ideology. That’s where we are now. Which is why a columnist for Spiked denominated 2023 as “the year America became a banana republic.”

Hunter Biden - Poster Boy for (D) White House Ethics...

Jonathan Turley, "Art Dealer Testifies Hunter Wanted Buyer Info"
More details are emerging from the recent testimony of Hunter Biden’s art dealer, George Bergès. We previously discussed how Bergès confirmed that the accounts of buyers flocking to buy Hunter’s art was false and that most of the art was purchased by his Democratic donor patron, Kevin Morris. Not only did Bergès shatter White House claims of a carefully constructed ethical system to keep Hunter from knowing the identity of purchasers, Bergès testified that Hunter expressly demanded to know the identity.

Various experts objected to the sales as a serious ethical problem of donors using the purchases to assist President Biden and his family.

The media dutifully reported at the time how the White House was grappling with the ethical questions and, according to the Washington Post, “the White House officials have helped craft an agreement.” It was portrayed as unprecedented and unyielding.

The White House continued to swat down questions by citing an ethical plan created for the sales. Andrew Bates, a spokesperson for the White House, said in a statement that “the President has established the highest ethical standards of any administration in American history, and his family’s commitment to rigorous processes like this is a prime example.”

Then White House spokesperson (and now MSNBC host) Jennifer Psaki stated:
“Well, I can tell you that after careful consideration, a system has been established that allows for Hunter Biden to work in his profession within reasonable safeguards […] But all interactions regarding the selling of art and the setting of prices will be handled by a professional gallerist, adhering to the highest industry standards. And any offer out of the normal course would be rejected out of hand. And the gallerist will not share information about buyers or prospective buyers, including their identities, with Hunter Biden or the administration, which provides quite a level of protection and transparency.”
Yet, Bergès reportedly testified that he had no contacts with the White House and Hunter knew the identity of the purchasers of most of the art. Notably, Bergès was reading these same reports in the news but never objected to the alleged misrepresentation. He admitted that he read of those reports and was confused.

A staffer asked: “When you’re seeing in the press that the White House is putting in certain safeguards regarding an ethics agreement but you’ve had no conversations with [the] White House, I mean, did you ever say to Hunter Biden, ‘Hey, where’s this coming from?’”

Bergès responded: “I might have. I probably did, yeah.” He admitted that he was surprised by the coverage “[b]ecause I hadn’t had any communication with the White House about an agreement.” That, of course, was never reported. Instead, the media dutifully reported how there was this comprehensive ethical plan in place.

What was particularly notable is that, despite the false White House claims and extensive coverage, Hunter appears to have discarded any such limits. Berges testified that artists usually do not know who buys their art. So not only did Hunter not comply with the agreement with the first, this was a departure from standard operating procedure to let him know about the purchasers: “…I don’t know how it was phrased or—but I remember that there—that that was the difference…That part was different. Normally, the gallerist does not let the artist know who the collectors are…The first one was that I was required to disclose who the buyers were. In the second one, I was required to not disclose the buyers.”

The most important testimony, in my view, is still the massive purchase by Morris. This Democratic donor was introduced to Hunter at a Democratic fundraiser for the first time not long before reportedly giving him millions to pay off his taxes and support his lavish lifestyle. He then reportedly purchased most of the art as the media was reporting how hot Hunter was as a new emerging artist. The claims of walling off the identity of purchasers and the high demand for his art proved to be false.

For his part, Bergès says that he no longer carries Hunter’s art. He did confirm that he previously did speak with President Biden in person and on the phone during the period when he was selling his son’s art.

The media, however, now appears to be, again, largely ignoring the story and what it says about not just the ethical questions but its own prior coverage.
John Solomon, "Art dealer told Congress that Joe Biden called and met him while he sold Hunter Biden’s paintings"
George Berges also says first son made unusual request to know the identity of buyers, undercutting White House's narrative.

The art dealer who sold Hunter Biden’s paintings told Congress that President Joe Biden both called and met him at the White House as he was pitching Hunter's artwork and that the first son also made an unusual request to be informed about who bought his pieces, according to testimony that directly undercuts the White House narrative on the sales.

The Biden White House repeatedly told the public that Hunter Biden’s art sales were covered by an ethics agreement to ensure they were arms-length and that the first family -- Hunter included -- was blinded to the identity of buyers.

But George Berges, owner of the prestigious Berges art galleries based in New York and Berlin that sold Hunter Biden’s painting from 2020 to 2023, told congressional impeachment investigators that the first son likely knew the identity of 70% of the buyers – the largest who were Democrat donors – and that Hunter Biden’s first contract made an unusual request when the relationship started.

“I believe in the first contract, he was—he was able to know who the buyers were,” Berges told investigators for the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees in a transcribed interview last week that was reviewed by Just the News. “…I don’t know how it was phrased or—but I remember that there—that that was the difference.”

“Is that normal or unusual, or where’s that? Is it a normal kind of contract?” Berges was asked.

“That part was different. Normally, the gallerist does not let the artist know who the collectors are,” the art dealer answered.

Berges said a subsequent art sale deal with the first son dropped the requirement for Hunter Biden to be informed. “The first one was that I was required to disclose who the buyers were. In the second one, I was required to not disclose the buyers,” he explained.

Berges was also asked how many of the 15 artists he represents now – except for Hunter Biden – wanted to know the identity of purchasers. “None,” he answered.

Berges also revealed that he no longer represents Hunter Biden for art sales, saying the commercial relationship ended last fall. “I haven't represented him for four months now, and I think that also says something,” Berges said. “And I still talk to him as a friend.” Hunter Biden is still listed on Berges' website.

Not only did Hunter Biden know many of the buyers, Joe Biden apparently knew about the gallery selling Hunter Biden’s art and had two contacts with Berges, according to the testimony.

“Have you spoken to President Biden?” a House investigator asked at one point.
“Yes,” Berges answered.

“Okay. And was that in person or on the phone or both?” the investigator pressed.
“Both,” he answered.

“Can you tell me about the in-person meeting, where that was, when that was?” the questioner inquired. “At the White House wedding during Hunter's - Hunter's daughter getting married,” the art dealer explained.

“Okay. And then on the phone?” the congressional investigator asked.

“My daughter finished camp and he called to, you know, wish her, congratulate her for finishing camp and I answered the phone,” he said.

Berges’ account mirrors that of an earlier Hunter Biden business partner, Devon Archer, who gave explosive testimony to Congress last summer revealing that Joe Biden as vice president got on about two dozen calls with his son’s foreign business associates and had at least two dinners with them. The president had denied any contact with Hunter Biden associates.

Berges’ testimony also confirmed earlier reporting by Just the News, including that:
Hollywood superlawyer and Democrat donor Kevin Morris bought some of Hunter Biden’s art work: Berges put the total at at least $875,000;
Democrat donor Elizbeth Naftali, who Joe Biden appointed to a federal commission, bought art work as well. Berges said she bought bought one painting before her federal appointment and one after her appointment;
Joe Biden fundraiser Lanette Phillips made the connection between Hunter Biden and Berges that led to the art sales deal;
Berges sold his first piece of art for the first son in December 2020, just before Joe Biden took office; and
Berges had two art sales agreements with Hunter Biden, one in 2020 and another about a year later.
But the art dealer’s most consequential testimony for the impeachment proceeding involved Joe Biden and his White House. Berges said in addition to meeting and talking with the president while helping Hunter Biden, he had never had any contact with the White House over the supposed ethics agreement.
“When you’re seeing in the press that the White House is putting in certain safeguards regarding an ethics agreement but you’ve had no conversations with [the] White House, I mean, did you ever say to Hunter Biden, ‘Hey, where’s this coming from?’” a congressional investigator asked. “I might have. I probably did, yeah,” Berges said.

“And do you remember what he said to you?" the investigator continued. “I don’t . . . . I do remember being surprised,” Berges explained.

“Why were you surprised?” he was asked. “Because I hadn’t had any communication with the White House about an agreement,” Berges answered.

Why Biden is Using Lawfare to Keep Trump Off the Ballot...

This is the thing about authoritarian regimes: they’re terrible at everything. They can’t feed their people. They can’t provide security for their people. They can’t educate their people. But they only have to be good at one thing to survive. If they can deny political alternatives, if they can force all opposition into exile or prison, they can survive, no matter how incompetent or corrupt or terrible they are.

Joe Biden Sleepwalks America into the Saudi War

Ryan Saavedra, "U.S. Hits 60+ Targets At Numerous Iranian-Backed Houthi Facilities Throughout Yemen: U.S. Officials"
U.S. officials said late Thursday night that dozens of Iranian-backed Houthi targets were struck inside Yemen in response to the terrorist group’s months-long attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea.

The strikes were launched in coordination with the United Kingdom, and with support from Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, and Bahrain, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.

“This multinational action targeted radar systems, air defense systems, and storage and launch sites for one way attack unmanned aerial systems, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles,” the statement said. “These strikes have no association with and are separate from Operation Prosperity Guardian, a defensive coalition of over 20 countries operating in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb Strait, and Gulf of Aden.”

General Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM Commander, said that the U.S. military would “hold the Houthi militants and their destabilizing Iranian sponsors responsible for the illegal, indiscriminate, and reckless attacks on international shipping that have impacted 55 nations so far, including endangering the lives of hundreds of mariners, including the United States.”

“Their illegal and dangerous actions will not be tolerated, and they will be held accountable,” he emphasized.

U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Alex Grynkewich, U.S. Air Forces Central and Combined Forces Air Component Commander Ninth Air Force, said that U.S. forces “executed deliberate strikes on over 60 targets at 16 Iranian-backed Houthi militant locations, including command and control nodes, munitions depots, launching systems, production facilities, and air defense radar systems.”

Grynkewich said that more than 100 precision-guided munitions of various types were used in the strikes and that missiles were fired from submarines.

The U.K. deployed four RAF Typhoon jets during the operation, which were accompanied by two air-to-air refuelling tankers.

Germany Stands Still...

Kurt Zindulka, "Farmers revolt!  Tractor Protests Bring Germany to Standstill over Government's Globalist Agenda"

Farmers brought Germany to a standstill with Dutch-style tractor protests throughout the country on Monday in response to globalist policies of the government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, which they claim threaten the very existence of the agriculture industry.

Farmers groups launched their planned week-long action to protest against the leftist coalition government’s plans to increase taxes on diesel fuel and eliminate the car tax exemption for farmers in addition to making deep cuts on the subsidies for the farming sector.

The proposed tax increases and funding cuts came as the government attempted to fill a 17-billion-euro ($18.6-billion) hole in the budget for 2024. Although the government was willing to seek to raise more money off the backs of German farmers, it was not willing to make any cuts in aid to Ukraine, which is set to double to eight billion euros this year.

Ahead of the planned week of protests from farmers, the government said that it would be willing to walk back some of the farming subsidy cuts and re-organise the tax increases over the next three years. However, the German Farmers’ Association (DBV) said that such moves would be insufficient to stave off the economic disaster facing many farmers throughout the country.

08 January 2024, Hamburg: A participant holds up a poster reading “Traffic light: D = No self-service market” in front of tractors after a rally in the city center as part of the farmers’ association’s week of action. In response to the federal government’s austerity plans, the farmers’ association has called for a week of action with rallies and rallies starting on January 8. It is to culminate in a major demonstration in the capital on January 15. Photo: Marcus Brandt/dpa (Photo by Marcus Brandt/picture alliance via Getty Images)

The nationwide protest on Monday has seen tractors shut down entrances to motorways, bridges, and tunnels in various states across Germany. According to broadcaster NTV, the farmers have closed access points to entire cities in the state of Brandenburg, including the urban area of Brandenburg an der Havel and Cottbus.

In Berlin, police reported that at least 566 tractors, as well as cars, trucks and vans, descended upon the city centre, blocking the Street of June 17th between the Victory Column and the Brandenburg Gate, where a candlelight vigil will be held later in the evening.

Production was also halted at a Volkswagen factory in Emden on Monday, with tractors blocking off access roads around the plant, preventing employees from getting to work.

President of the German Farmer’s Association Joachim Rukwied said that the government was “depriving agriculture of its future viability”. Rukwied said that the combination of rising energy costs — a result of years of green agenda policies combined with the war in Ukraine — and the proposed subsidy cuts and tax hikes would see the average farmer in Germany lose at least a third of their income.

The Farmer’s Association chief went on to dispute the government’s claims that it was short of money, arguing that the bloated government in Berlin has a spending problem rather than an income problem, arguing that the government should seek to make cuts in other areas.

Rukwied went on to say that the “planned tax increases were the last straw” for the farmers, whose businesses are “dying in instalments”.

The Green Party Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck — who was personally protested against by hundreds of farmers last week — has criticised the farmer protest and a government spokesman warned on Friday that supposed “far-right” elements would seek to use the demonstrations for their own benefit, the farmers have gained support elsewhere.

Alexander Dobrindt, the chairman of the Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CSU) in the Bundestag parliament, said that the protests were both legitimate and justified, arguing that they were the inevitable result of the failures of the left-wing government of Olaf Scholz, and declaring: “The farmers have our support for this protest.” The populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) has also backed the protest movement.

The farmer protests in Germany follow the example set by their counterparts in the Netherlands, who staged a similar rebellion against the Great Reset-style agenda of outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who sought to shut down thousands of farms in order to comply with the European Union’s green agenda.

The large-scale movement in the Netherlands translated into political success, with the party associated with the protests, the BoerBurgerBeweging (Farmer-Citizen Movement), becoming the largest regional party and the largest power in the Senate after last spring’s regional elections. The party is currently in negotiations with populist leader and expected next prime minister Geert Wilders to enter into a coalition government.

Kaitlin Lewis, "Joe Biden Campaign Volunteers Are Quitting in 'Droves'"
A group of staffers working on President Joe Biden's reelection campaign warned the president that his volunteers are quitting "in droves" over his handling of Israel's military response in the Gaza Strip.

Biden has faced immense pressure from members of his own party over the United States' policies in light of the surprise Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7, which killed about 1,200 people and resulted in roughly 240 hostages, including some Americans. In response, Israel launched an extensive air and ground offensive in Gaza, killing nearly 22,000 Palestinians over the past several weeks, according to Gaza health officials cited by the Associated Press (AP).

In a letter published Wednesday on Medium, an anonymous group of Biden's campaign staffers demanded the president call for a ceasefire in Gaza, citing concerns that not shifting his policy on the issue could hurt his 2024 chances.

"Like so many others, we continue to be devastated by Hamas's attack against Israeli civilians on October 7th—it was a vile assault, one that touched the consciousness of the country," the letter read.

"The subsequent killing of 20,000 Palestinian civilians, however, has struck the same societal nerve," the message continued. "We cannot repeat the mistakes of the past by allowing the actions of Hamas to justify such further violence against civilians."

The campaigners cited a recent poll published by The New York Times, which found that a majority of Democratic voters (64 percent) believe that Israel should "stop its military campaign in order to protect against civilian casualties, even if Hamas has not been fully eliminated."

The same survey, which was published in mid-December and was based on the responses of 1,016 registered voters nationwide, found that 72 percent of voters under the age of 30 disapproved of Biden's handling of the conflict, which the letter noted is traditionally a "key Democratic voting bloc."

"Biden for President staff have seen volunteers quit in droves, and people who have voted blue for decades feel uncertain about doing so for the first time ever, because of this conflict," the Medium letter read.

"It is not enough to merely be the alternative to Donald Trump," the campaigners continued. "The campaign has to shift the feeling in the pits of voters' stomachs, the same feeling that weighs on us every day as we fight for your reelection. The only way to do that is to call for a ceasefire."

"You have said numerous times that silence in the face of human rights violations is complicity," the letter added "We agree, which is why we are speaking out now. Every minute that passes without a ceasefire is another life that is lost—a life that could have been saved with political action from you."
