The "Racist" Arrest and "Murder" of George Floyd

On May 25, 2020, someone called 911 and reported that a man bought merchandise from Cup Foods at 3759 Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota with a counterfeit $20 bill.

At 8:08 p.m., Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) Officers Thomas Lane and J.A. Kueng arrived with their body worn cameras (BWCs) activated and running. The officers learned from store personnel that the man who passed the counterfeit $20 was parked in a car around the corner from the store on 38th Street.

BWC video obtained by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension shows that the officers approached the car, Lane on the driver’s side and Kueng on the passenger side. Three people were in the car. George Floyd was in the driver’s seat, a known adult male was in the passenger seat and a known adult female was sitting in the backseat. As Officer Lane began speaking with Mr. Floyd, he pulled his gun out and pointed it at Mr. Floyd’s open window and directed Mr. Floyd to show his hands. When Mr. Floyd put his hands in the steering wheel, Lane put his gun back in its holster.

While Officer Kueng was speaking with the front seat passenger, Officer Lane ordered Mr. Floyd out of the car, put his hands on Mr. Floyd, and pulled him out of the car. Officer Lane handcuffed Mr. Floyd. Mr. Floyd actively resisted being handcuffed.

Once handcuffed, Mr. Floyd became compliant and walked with Officer Lane to the sidewalk and sat on the ground at Officer Lane’s direction. In a conversation that lasted just under two minutes, Officer Lang asked Mr. Floyd for his name and identification. Officer Lane asked Mr. Lloyd if he was “on anything” and explained that he was arresting Mr. Lloyd for passing counterfeit currency.

Officers Kueng and Lane stood Mr. Floyd up and attempted to walk Mr. Floyd to their squad car (MPD 320) at 8:14 p.m. Mr. Floyd stiffened up, fell to the ground, and told the officers he was claustrophobic.

MPD Officers Derek Chauvin (the defendant) and Tou Thoa then arrived in a separate squad car. The officers made several attempts to get Mr. Floyd in the backseat of squad 320 from the driver’s side.

Mr. Floyd did not voluntarily get in the car and struggled with the officers by intentionally falling down, saying he was not going in the car, and refusing to stand still. Mr. Floyd is over six feet tall and weighs more than 200 pounds.

While standing outside the car, Mr. Floyd began saying and repeating that he could not breathe. The defendant went to the passenger side and tried to get Mr. Floyd into the car from that side and Lane and Kueng assisted.

The defendant pulled Mr. Floyd out of the passenger side of the squad car at 8:19:38 p.m. and Mr. Floyd went to the ground face down and still handcuffed. Kueng held Mr. Floyd’s back and Lane held his legs. The defendant placed his left knee in the area of Mr. Floyd’s head and neck. Mr. Floyd said, “I can’t breathe” multiple times and repeatedly said, “Mama” and “please,” as well. The defendant and the other two officers stayed in their positions.

The officers said, “You are talking fine” to Mr. Floyd as he continued to move back and forth. Lane asked, “should we roll him on his side?” and the defendant said, “No, staying put where we got him.” Officer Lane said, “I am worried about excited delirium or whatever.” The defendant said, “That’s why we have him on his stomach.” None of the three officers moved from their positions.

BWC video shows Mr. Floyd continue to move and breathe.

At 8:24:24, Mr. Floyd stopped moving.

At 8:25:31 the video appears to show Mr. Floyd ceasing to breathe or speak. Lane said, “want to roll him on his side.” Kueng checked Mr. Floyd’s right wrist for a pulse and said, “I couldn’t find one.” None of the officers moved from their positions.

At 8:27:24, the defendant removed his knee from Mr. Floyd’s neck. An ambulance and emergency medical personnel arrived, the officers placed Mr. Floyd on a gurney, and the ambulance left the scene. Mr. Floyd was pronounced dead at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Not a peep about "excited delirium" in the news I've read and seen. **sigh**

Terrible that he died like that... But I wonder if ANYTHING that's written here will ever come out? If the truth doesn't fit our media agenda, it's kept quiet...........I have to say anybody who's cuffed shouldn't need that kind of restraining done to him......but...these truths here should be revealed! (Also, any one of us could get a $20 in one store in change, then go to another store and pass it , thinking it's legit)...NO?

This was straight up murder. No need for quote marks.

First, Floyd began complaining of being unable to breathe while standing, well before he was taken down, and well before any knee was placed on his neck.

Secondly, I want you to do a little thought experiment. Place your left index finger tip on your windpipe. Now take your right hand, make a fist, and place that fist on the side of your neck. Now, push on the side of your neck with that fist. Can you visualize any amount of pressure from your fist that would close your windpipe?

Bear in mind that the leg to which than knee was attached was behind the "victim," which puts the knee (your fist) well BEHIND the windpipe. Even when applied from the front, it takes a LOT of force to close the windpipe. Applied from the side and rear? No.

The original Medical Examiner's report said there was no indication of asphyxia. After an ME hired by the Floyd family said there was such evidence, and after serious riots were happening in his city, the Minneapolis ME changed his mind, went along with consensus and said that asphyxia was present.

2 minutes after George Floyd was found to have no pulse was when Chauvin removed his knee? OK, so Chauvin wanted to be SURE Floyd was dead, yet this ISN'T murder? What the hell difference does "excited delirium" -- diagnosed by one of the cops who is also (apparently) a medical doctor -- make?

Jayhawk,
Is it your position that the officer(s) did nothing wrong?

The Independent ME's "examination" consisted of watching the videotape...

And before you respond with Michael Baden’s “independent” autopsy as reported by the media, understand that Baden is a hired man that also believed Michael Brown was shot in the back after looking at a diagram and that O.J. Simpson was innocent. Two specific items were noticed in his press conference that the media is not reporting.

He never said it was his “expert” opinion but rather his opinion. This is to protect his integrity as an expert witness.

Most importantly, Baden didn’t do an autopsy. He formed his opinion from watching the video and speaking to the family of Mr. Floyd.

Nothing he said can be brought into a criminal proceeding. It’s simply done to sway public opinion but we will get to him in another article. Back to the actual facts…….

But don't despair, Dervy, Mr. Floyd's life can still serve the anti-Trump cause as a COVID-19 death...

Thersites said...

...and maybe even an Opioid Death to boot:

According to the autopsy, Mr. Floyd had two specific drugs in his system, methamphetamine and fentanyl.

A narcotic that is 50 to 100 times stronger than heroin, fentanyl is associated with more drug overdoses than any other opioid.

He was a veritable "liberal cause trifecta"!

So, according to "Thersites", George Floyd's death was a suicide... I'm sure that, if Floyd had lived, he wouldn't sue the police department for the way he was mistreated (said sarcastically. Of course there would be lawsuit). If nothing was done wrong, why is it (in such cases) the police department usually (always?) pays millions to the family of the murdered African American victim?

Oh, George Floyd's family will CERTAINLY get their pound of flesh. But as for those police officers, they won't serve a day. Minneapolis will do no better in trying those officers than those who prosecuted the six? for Freddie Gray.

Nothing about 'antifa being a terrorist org' yet?

Oh well, give it time!

Dervish Z Sanders said...

Police officers who commit murder often aren't convicted. Even when (as it absolutely was this time) very clearly murder. If these officers do walk, the reason won't be innocence. This explains the protests. The African American community knows how this will likely go. So I say this is ALL on the police and their supporters/enablers. If such murders were taken seriously, there would be no reason to protest. And therefore no opportunity for the criminal types to riot and/or loot.

The multi-million dollar payments from police departments to the families of victims could also be greatly reduced or eliminated if these bad cops (with MANY complaints in their files) were gotten rid of. But apparently you're happy with the current state of affairs -- and want everything to continue as it has been.

I love Police Unions. :)

BAD WORKERS, BAD COPS. Impossible to get rid of....

Dervish Z Sanders said...

Of course you love police unions. They protect the bad cops that hurt and kill the people you hate.

Gert said...

Yeah, because unionised worker can't be sacked!

I call utter baloney on that one.

While you're at it, bring back 'ye olde Company shoppe'!

Regressive or what?

Gert said...

The two biggest enemies of national workers (you claim to be concerned about): I'nal neoliberalism and anti-unionism.

Gert said...

You're a funny one. Like all decent cognizent human beings you oppose neoliberalism but then go and oppose unionism in the same breath.

Anti-unionism was a major trait of... the old LIBERALISM!

Gert said...

And unions are about more than hiring and firing. Ever heard of collective (wage) bargaining?

Gert said...

Who benefits from Walmart's anti-unionism, Farmer? Cui bono?

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

I oppose Unions for the same reasons I oppose corporations. Unions were supposed to be the "antidote" for BIG corporate excesses. They're contract/lawyer created monopolizing legal entities. I want to get rid of them BOTH, big corporations with their liability limits and government tax breaks and big unions and their exclusion of competent and competitive workers. The fact that the only successful American unions represent monopoly government employees is a ridiculous waste of taxpayer money.

There's no role for unions in MY completely petit bourgeois world.

But until corporations are disfavored, I'm all for all unions. Especially the MEBA. That's a Jones Act big government created entity if EVER there was one. A "tariff" on international shipping.

Yeah, I've noticed 'revolutionary acts' are fine fine you, as long as they're in the 'way back then machine'! ;-)

You notice in the link that the original Unions were mostly racist entities, keeping workers of colour out of high-wage occupations. The Democratic Party was ALWAYS the Party of Race and exclusion. THAT is what they used to mean when they claimed to be Pro-Labour.

Gert said...

were mostly racist entities

How can that be? How can YOU be the judge of that? Racism doesn't exist in your world. And you host one of the most horrific cases of antisemitic and anti-black racism on your blog!

Gert said...

I've heard that kvetch all my life: 'it's the Dems that are racist, not us!' It's classic 'turn the tables', nothing more. Right blog simply oooooze racism.

Lincoln freed the slaves, not the Democrats.

Nixon used the Southern Strategy to turn the former slave states solidly red, not the Democrats. And Dotard pandered to racist White Men to win the 2016 election. The Democrats had nothing to do with that decision.
