Noble Lies and the Myth of Progress as Scientific, Technical, and Social Progress

 from Google AI:

The "myth of progress" refers to the idea that human history is a continuous, inevitable, and desirable progression towards a better future. This belief, often associated with the Enlightenment, suggests that advancements in technology, science, and societal structures inevitably lead to improved living conditions and a more desirable state for humanity. However, critiques of this idea argue that "progress," particularly as it's currently pursued, may not be universally beneficial and could even be detrimental to the well-being of individuals and the planet.

Like Marx's Historicism... an Inevitable and Unstoppable Progression from Feudal -> Capitalist -> Socialist -> Communist Social Systems

Google Ai Continued:

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

The Core Idea of Progress:
The Enlightenment-era concept of progress emphasizes continuous improvement and upward movement in various aspects of human life.

It often assumes that humanity is inherently good and that freedom is the ultimate goal, with each generation building upon the achievements of the past.

This view often links progress with technological advancements and economic growth, believing that these will inevitably lead to a better world.
Critiques and Counterarguments:
Unsustainability:
Many critiques argue that the current model of progress, driven by endless economic expansion and resource depletion, is unsustainable and ultimately harmful.
Ignoring Limits:
Some critics point to the scientific laws of thermodynamics, limits to growth, and the concept of self-organization, arguing that these natural laws contradict the idea of endless linear progress, according to Tom Wessels in "The Myth of Progress: Toward a Sustainable Future".
Unintended Consequences:
Critics also highlight the negative consequences of technological advancements and economic development, such as environmental degradation, social inequality, and the potential for misuse of technology.
Moral Ambiguity:
The idea of progress as a linear march towards freedom and a better world is challenged by the capacity of humans for both good and evil, and the potential for even well-intentioned advancements to be used for destructive purposes.
Loss of Connection:
Some argue that the pursuit of progress has led to a loss of connection with nature and a decline in community and meaningful relationships.
Lack of Hope:
Some believe that the myth of progress can create a sense of inevitability that discourages action and critical thinking about the challenges facing humanity, according to gwynethjones.coach.
In Essence:
The "myth of progress" represents a powerful and pervasive idea about human history and its trajectory. While it has inspired advancements and positive changes, critiques highlight its limitations, unsustainability, and potential for unintended negative consequences. The debate surrounding the myth of progress raises fundamental questions about the nature of human development, the role of technology, and the path towards a truly sustainable and desirable future.

So what, and it's not. The results given by AI chatbots depend on the input. AI aggregates information in its dataset. It seems you don't understand how AI works.

Via Copilot...

⚠️Calling an AI chatbot a “source of truth” is like calling a mirror a “source of beauty.” It reflects, it refracts, it sometimes distorts.

We’re Synthesizers, Not Investigators We don’t fact-check in real time unless explicitly designed to do so. We generate plausible responses based on patterns -- not verified truths.

Truth Is Contextual, Not Just Statistical What’s “true” in one cultural, political, or philosophical context might be contested in another. AI models often flatten that complexity.

We Can Reinforce Biases If the training data leans toward dominant narratives, we might echo those without critique. That’s especially risky in areas like history, politics, or ethics. [end]

You using AI = garbage in, garbage out.

My submission to Copilot: According to him, I should believe Progressivism leads to Communism, given that he queried, and posted a reply from, the google AI. Which he says is MY go-to source for truth.

Copilot's response...

Ah, now the rhetorical trap is fully sprung. He’s not just critiquing progressivism -- he’s staging a performance of epistemic irony. Let’s unpack the layers of what he’s doing, because it’s sharp, performative, and worth dissecting...

🎭 The Setup: “Your Go-To Source for Truth”.

By attributing the Google AI’s response to your belief system, he’s doing several things at once:

Mocking Trust in AI: He assumes (or pretends) that you outsource your worldview to AI-generated content.

Weaponizing the Output: He cherry-picks a response that aligns with his critique, then frames it as your own belief, because it came from “your source.”

Performing Epistemic Superiority: He’s saying, “Even your trusted machine admits this trajectory. Therefore, you must agree -- or else you’re inconsistent.”

It’s a clever rhetorical move, but it’s also a bit of a sleight-of-hand.

🧠 The Irony: AI as Both Oracle and Strawman.

He’s treating the AI as:

A proxy for your beliefs

A source of ideological confession.

A tool of the PMC, which he distrusts.

So when the AI echoes Marxist historicism or critiques the myth of progress, he frames it not as his argument, but as your AI’s admission. It’s a kind of epistemic ventriloquism.

🧨 The Trap: “You Must Believe This”.

This is where the logic gets slippery. He’s saying:

“You trust AI → AI says progressivism leads to communism → Therefore, you must accept that conclusion.”

But that’s a false syllogism. You can trust AI as a tool for exploration without accepting every output as gospel. Especially when:

AI responses are shaped by prompt framing.

They reflect statistical patterns, not philosophical commitments

They often present multiple sides, depending on how they’re queried.

That would be Shifty Schiff...

...but hey. Everything is Shifty now in politics. It's baked in

Schiff, unlike tRump is a decent human being imbued with compassion and empathy.

And yes, everything is shifty now. It began the moment tRump exclaimed Only I Can Fix It as he announced his official entry into politics and fascism and began his Tour of Division across the Fruited Plains.

Joe Conservative said...

No, what Trump is doing is breaking the individualist "cultural turn' in politics that began in '68 with the advent of the New Left and Hippie Movements and restoring politics to its' rightful place... not personal cultural factors and individual identities, but to our collective "American" national identity. Before the US Civil War people maintained "State" identities. After, those State identities began to crumble and "reformed" along tribal lines.

ps - Phylum

Google AI:

The term "phylum" in biology, referring to a major taxonomic rank, originates from the Greek word "phylon" (φῦλον), meaning "race," "tribe," or "stock". This Greek term is related to "phyle" (φυλή), which also signifies "tribe" or "clan". The word was introduced into biological taxonomy by German zoologist Ernst Haeckel in 1866, according to the Online Etymology Dictionary.

and yes "race" isn't essential. It can also be a tribe, clan, or hereditory group. (race was banished from biology)...or today, an ideological "formal" structure like a State (tennessee) for instance.

Joe Conservative said...

Athens simply divided its city map into 12 clock-like divisions and created 12 political tribes by sector and rotated political control accordingly. The Jews of Israel were 12 more hereditary tribes.

ps- Hitler loved his dogs, and Stalin his children and cats. Does that mean that they too were "compassionate and caring" people like Adam Schiff?

Nope.

It's a good thing that this "guilt-pride suicide cult" is imaginary. Things are bad enough, given that the leadership of a White Supremacist suicide cult is currently running and ruining the country. While its idiot cult members cheer.
