The Commodification of "Cool": Left Rebellion as 'Product'

Branding "Cool" (The Anti-Fragility of Consumer Capitalism)
from Google AI:
The Conquest of Cool: Business Culture, Counterculture, and the Rise of Hip Consumerism is a landmark 1997 cultural studies book written by social critic and historian Thomas Frank. [1, 2]
The book argues that the youth counterculture of the 1960s did not merely get "co-opted" or "sold out" to corporate capitalism. Instead, the advertising and men's clothing industries actively anticipated, shaped, and joined the rebellion to break free from their own rigid corporate conformity. [1, 2, 3]
Core Concepts from the Book
  • The Transmutation of "Cool": Frank traces how "hipness" mutated from the native language of the alienated and bohemian communities into the official language of corporate advertising. Marketers realized that a rebellious, nonchalant attitude was the ultimate tool to target the massive youth demographic. [1, 2]
  • Co-Evolution, Not Theft: Rather than corporate executives subverting a pure revolution, business culture and youth counterculture evolved alongside each other. Capitalism embraced anti-conformity because it was highly effective at driving consumers to constantly replace old goods with new, "revolutionary" products. [1, 2]
  • The Illusion of Cultural Radicalism: The book argues that modern consumerism thrives on the appearance of rebellion. Buying a specific brand or flaunting an adversarial aesthetic is often mistaken for a political statement, effectively neutralizing genuine societal critique by turning it into a marketplace choice.
What's YOUR Identity?

Form(al) or Matter/ Material?
from Google AI:
The Ship of Theseus is a famous puzzle about identity. It asks if a ship is still the same ship after you replace every single wooden part over time. Aristotle used his theory of the Four Causes to solve this puzzle, focusing on design and purpose rather than raw matter. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Aristotle's Four Causes
Aristotle broke down the identity of any object into four explanations or causes: [1]
  • Material Cause: The physical stuff making up the object (the wooden planks).
  • Formal Cause: The form, pattern, or design of the object (the shape of the ship).
  • Efficient Cause: How and by whom the object was made (the shipbuilders and tools).
  • Final Cause: The purpose or function of the object (to sail and carry people). [1, 2]
How Aristotle Solved the Paradox
  • Form over Matter: Aristotle believed that a thing's identity ("what it is") relies mostly on its formal cause (its design and structure), not its material cause (the changing material). [1, 2]
  • Continuous Form: As long as the shape and design stay the same while the planks are replaced step by step, it remains the same ship. [1, 2]
  • The Living Body: Aristotle viewed living things similarly; your body changes its physical cells and matter over time, but your form and essence keep you as the same person. [1]
If you'd like, I can:
  • Explain how later philosophers like Thomas Hobbes added a twist to this puzzle.
  • Apply this idea to human biology or artificial intelligence.

In his 1655 work De Corpore, the 17th-century English philosopher Thomas Hobbes added a brilliant complication to the Ship of Theseus paradox. [1, 2]
Instead of just replacing the planks, Hobbes iagined a scavenger or custodian who follows the ship around. Every time the Athenians throw away an old, decaying wooden plank, this person collects it and stores it in a warehouse. [1, 2, 3]
Once every single original plank has been replaced, the scavenger takes all those old planks and reassembles them exactly as they were to build a ship. [1, 2]
Now, there are two physical ships sitting side-by-side in the harbor: [1, 2]
  1. Ship A (The Maintained Ship): The ship that kept sailing. It has a continuous history of use, but 0% of its original material remains.
  2. Ship B (The Reassembled Ship): The ship in the warehouse. It is made of 100% of the original physical matter, but it has no continuous history of sailing. [1, 2]
The Clash of Identities
Hobbes' twist forces a direct showdown between two competing philosophical definitions of identity: [1]
ShipThe Philosophical ArgumentWhy it has a claim
Ship A (Maintained)Spatiotemporal ContinuityIdentity is defined by an unbroken history in time and space. It is the same vehicle that Theseus actually stood on, even if the parts were swapped.
Ship B (Reassembled)Material IdentityIdentity is defined by constituent parts. This ship is literally made of the exact atoms, wood, and matter that originally fought in Theseus' battles.
The Absurdity
The law of logic (specifically the transitivity of identity) states that if Ship A equals the original, and Ship B equals the original, then Ship A must equal Ship B. But they cannot be the same thing because they are sitting in two different places at the exact same time. [1, 2]
Hobbes used this to point out that we cannot rely on just "matter" or just "form" to define what things are; identity is a complex concept deeply tied to how we choose to name and categorize things. [1]
Would you like to explore how modern law or property rights try to settle this debate, or should we look at how this applies to digital identity and cloning?
Time to Change the FORM of Capitalism Again (Efficient Cause). From CONsumer Capitalism, to PROsumer Capitalism.

...or Try something COMPLETELY Different!

from Google AI:
Comparing Gilles Deleuze and FĂ©lix Guattari’s "Body without Organs" (BwO) to Aristotle’s Four Causes reveals a fundamental clash between a metaphysics of radical potential and a metaphysics of fixed purpose. While Aristotle structures reality through predetermined ends and organized functions, Deleuze and Guattari champion a chaotic, unorganized substrate of pure possibility that actively resists structured teleology. [1, 2, 3]
Here is how these two heavy-hitting philosophical frameworks stand in direct opposition across Aristotle's classic four categories:
The Philosophical Direct Comparison
Aristotelian CauseAristotle’s View (The Organism)Deleuze & Guattari’s View (The BwO)The Core Conflict
Material Cause
(What it's made of)
Passive raw matter waiting for a form to give it identity (e.g., bronze waiting to become a statue).Active, flowing intensities and "desiring machines" that collide and connect dynamically.Aristotle views matter as passive; Deleuze and Guattari view the material field as a highly active, chaotic storm of potential.
Formal Cause
(The blueprint/shape)
The structural essence or organization that defines what an entity is (e.g., the blueprint of a house).Anti-form. The BwO explicitly opposes "the organism"—the rigid, coded organization of parts.Aristotle favors fixed structures; the BwO acts as a "blank sheet" or "slippery surface" that sheds rigid forms to stay fluid.
Efficient Cause
(The agent/trigger)
An external force or agent that brings something into being (e.g., the sculptor carving the statue).Immanent, self-organizing flows. Production happens through internal connections of desire, not external creators.Aristotle relies on a linear chain of triggers; Deleuze and Guattari view reality as a decentralized, rhizomatic network.
Final Cause
(The purpose/end)
Teleology. Everything has a built-in purpose or ultimate end function (telos), like an acorn meant to become an oak.Anti-teleological. The BwO is deliberately unproductive, sterile, and resists being locked into an ultimate goal.Aristotle believes design and survival dictate form; the BwO aims for open-ended experimentation and constant "becoming".
Summary of the Metaphysical Divergence
  • Aristotle builds an "Organism": For Aristotle, a healthy entity requires its parts to be structured, channeled, and aimed toward a specific function (homeostasis and telos). A body needs organs working in perfect harmony to achieve its true form. [1]
  • Deleuze & Guattari smash the "Organism": The BwO is not a body stripped of literal physical organs; it is a body without organization. It represents the infinite reservoir of things a body could do if it weren't trapped by the rigid routines of biology, language, and societal expectations. [1, 2, 3]
Where Aristotle asks "What is this thing's ultimate purpose?", Deleuze and Guattari cite Spinoza to ask "What can a body do when freed from purpose?"

Sure, that's why you derisively call people who don't see the "real truth" (as you believe you do) "normies". And I'm sure you don't see yourself as "cool" for knowing things the "plebs" don't know. Due to being fooled sheeple.

This is more projection, as usual. Democrats... we're the normal non crazy people. Most of us. Of course you can give examples where that's not the case. But I think it's pretty obvious that the majority of the crazies (people who think they are smarter and cooler) are on the right, not the left.

Has PRESIDENT Trump done well in 2026 TO WARRANT HIS BEING A Plus to other candidates ? Yes, in some respects shuch as Ice Arrests/deportations, Cutting Crime, Stopping IRAN from being a Nuclear Threat?

BUT, yes this is One BIG But and this is an issue that may carry some Democrats to victory next month, and that is AFFORDABILITY.

Yes Trump has done well, in general, at stopping the runaway inflation of the Failed Joe Biden years, BUT Americans are still stuck with the enormous prices in the high prices of housing, food and especially Gas that came about because of the war with Iran , and not much is being done to fix that..

One thing that could be done is to raise the Social Security and significantly which are mired in a measly 2.8%, and not likely to go up much for 2027. Another is rent control. A nationwide rent control law could at least stop the insane rents of 2026 from going even higher. My own landlord has raised our rent $150 to $200 /month every year, for the last 5 years. That needs to get a handle put on it. Other than that President Trump has been one of the Best Presidents inmy Lifetime.

The phrase "contingent on the employer making a profit" means that a specific financial benefit, payment, or fund allocation will only happen if, and after, the company's total revenues exceed its total expenses. If there is no profit, there is no money paid out for that specific item. It makes that money completely conditional on financial success.
And it is incredibly stupid, financially illiterate, and legally dangerous to use this phrase when explaining how a basic salary or a production worker's wage fund is formed.

1. You Are Confusing "Revenue" with "Profit" (Accounting 101 Failure)
Production workers are paid out of Gross Revenue (the top line), not Net Profit (the bottom line).
• Waging/labor costs are an operating expense. They are factored in before profit is calculated.
• If you tell workers their basic salary is contingent on profit, you are mathematically claiming that the company must magically calculate net profit before paying the expenses required to generate the product in the first place. It is a circular, economically brain-dead argument.

2. You Are Asking for a Labor Law Lawsuit
In almost every civilized jurisdiction, a "basic salary" is a guaranteed legal obligation for hours worked.
• By saying a basic salary is "contingent on profit," you are implying that if the company has a bad quarter, you can legally withhold their base pay.
• This is not how employment contracts work; it is how slavery or illegal wage theft works. If a regulatory body or a union hears an employer say this, they will rip the company to pieces.

3. It Completely Misunderstands Risk Distribution
You are fundamentally confusing Labor with Capital.
• Investors and business owners take on the risk. They get the residual claim (profit) because they own the equity.
• Production workers exchange their time and labor for guaranteed, immediate compensation (wages). They do not bear the entrepreneurial risk of the business.
• If you want their pay to be contingent on profit, you are asking them to be equity partners. If they are equity partners, you need to open your financial books to them and give them voting rights. Are you doing that? No. So stop using the language of equity for hourly labor.

4. It Destroys Worker Morale and Retention
Saying this to production workers tells them: "Even if you show up every day, bust your ass, and hit every manufacturing quota perfectly, you might get zero dollars if management sucks at marketing, overspends on corporate retreats, or mismanages the supply chain." It tells them they are responsible for macroeconomic factors they cannot control. Anyone with a brain will quit immediately.

Let’s take a look at a few radical left-wing talking points. And trying to identify what who said it and when did it start becoming popular. 20- 20 years ago? Or was it 40 years ago?
We can start with
“We stole land from the Indian”
And “White people are privileged”
Andrew Jackson was the fist American racist”. And how about the Lefties Favorite
“ Why is Trump a Crook”
I will bet that most Americans don’t agree with those talking points… most Americans understand that things like slavery, warfare and conquest were part of human history.

Those 3 points listed above are just three examples of radical left-wing views. Of course we also have those who believe in 100 different genders.

Again When did such language become part of the American experience? The whole white people are privileged is relatively new within the past few years. But those ideas like we stole land from the Indian or Andrew Jackson was a racist. I’m guessing was popular in the media/Hollywood 30 or 40 years ago?

Because if you look at history, whether it is the history of the Jew, the Indian, the black, the Asian they did all of the same things that the white European Christian man did. But for some reason in America, the media, Hollywood, and some of our politicians hype up those three sentences above and even more types of what we can call anti-Americanism.

If I go to Shaw's blog, there are many sane people there having rational discussions.

And. AI answered:

A rational discussion is a conversation based on logic, facts, and evidence, rather than just feelings, yelling, or stubbornness. It is a way for people to talk to each other to find the truth or solve a problem.
To answer your second question directly: No, a conversation cannot be a rational discussion if alternative points of view are banned.
Here is why, explained in the simplest way possible.
What Makes a Discussion "Rational"?
Think of a rational discussion like building a sturdy house. To build it, you need the right tools:
• Facts: Things we can prove are true (like "ice is cold").
• Listening: Actually hearing what the other person says, not just waiting for your turn to speak.
• Changing your mind: Being willing to admit you are wrong if someone shows you a better fact.
If people are just shouting, calling each other names, or ignoring facts, it is an argument, not a rational discussion.

Why Must Alternative Views Be Allowed?
If a rule says, "You are not allowed to disagree with me," then the discussion is dead. It is no longer a rational discussion; it is a lecture or command.
Here is why alternative views are 100% necessary:
1. The Test: Imagine you buy a "bulletproof" vest. How do you know it actually works? You have to test it. Alternative points of view are the "test" for an idea. If your idea cannot handle questions or disagreements, it might be a bad idea.
2. Finding Mistakes: Humans make mistakes. We don't know everything. If no one is allowed to offer a different view, you will never find out if you are wrong.
3. True Agreement: If you force everyone to agree with you by banning other opinions, they aren't agreeing because you are smart or right. They are agreeing because they have to. That proves nothing.
Summary: Rational discussion is about testing ideas to find the truth. You cannot test an idea if you ban all other options.

PS That was generated for very dumb people to understand.
But I feel that would not be enough. And next time I will be forced to ask "for cretins to understand".

PPS Not sure that it will be possible for AI... yawn. Even.

Yeah, and then insist I "really mean" something else by coming up with a very wrong interpretation of my words. Yawn.

Qtard: ...you "inventing" some cretinic "contingent on profit" bs.

Yeah, because if employees get together and ask the bosses for a raise, it's a very good argument to make to point out that the company is losing money, and should give raises for that reason?

And I "invented" that would be a bad argument, while you think that's a great argument for getting raises?

Qtard: And. AI answered:

That's a lie. AI did not assess Shaw's comment moderation decisions after taking into consideration her motivations and thinking behind why she moderates as she does.

Qtard (allegedly quoting AI): A rational discussion is a conversation based on logic, facts, and evidence, rather than just feelings, yelling, or stubbornness. It is a way for people to talk to each other to find the truth or solve a problem.

Looks like your admission that you are unable to engage in rational discussion.

Qtard (allegedly quoting AI): ...a conversation cannot be a rational discussion if alternative points of view are banned. ... Think of a rational discussion like building a sturdy house.

And the "alternative point of view" that the house shouldn't be built at all is helpful in building the house? People suggesting they will do their best to tear down the house if the building is undertaken... those are helpful to the goal of building the house? Probably to a cretin like you.

Qtard: PS That was generated for very dumb people to understand.

But you (obviously a very dumb person) didn't understand. Think name calling is "constructive". When the AI answer you cut and pasted says it is not. But you already did demonstrate a serious reading comprehension problem.

Here you think an AI answer that contradicts what you do... that's actually supportive of how you argue. Which is NOT to arrive at the truth. By your own admission you engage with me to "laugh at my cretinity".

"It is a way for people to talk to each other to find the truth or solve a problem".

That is not YOUR OWN stated goal. So why should Shaw publish any comments from you? How is it not completely rational for her to refuse to publish such comments?

Qtard: Only to unleash heavy foot of government -- to squize money from them to pay "fair salaries" and to finance welfare programs? %^P

Exactly. They won't do it willingly, and so must be forced. For the betterment of society.

Qtard: Congrats, cretin! That's exactly what fascists government would do.

Obviously you dunno what fascism even is. As per the definition, "Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement".

Instead you humpty-dumptied it to have some other meaning. A meaning that makes fascism left-wing instead of right-wing.

A left-wing government is one that represents THE PEOPLE. The People are entitled to force outliers to do what they want. That's what government does. You oppose government forcing people to not commit murder or steal? (or at least try to lessen these things via policing and punishment).

You think that murdering and stealing should be legal?

Gemini Interaction...

(my question) I was considering a reply to this blog comment [qtard comment quoted]. It was made by someone replying to a comment I wrote in support of companies paying higher wages (in the context of wages not keeping pace with productivity). I said they should pay fair wages.

(Gemini response) Advocating for fair wages in relation to productivity isn't fascism—it's a standard topic in market economics. Fascism is an authoritarian dictatorship that destroys private enterprise and individual rights. Wanting workers to share in the wealth they create is actually a core feature of healthy democratic societies and regulated capitalism.🛑

Qtard: You are cretin that dunno how to reply in correct thread.)))

I agree with this correct observation about yourself.

Obviously you are referring to yourself. Given that you replied to a comment in this thread that I made in a different thread. The one where I said I support a mixed economy. You have to go back 4 posts to find that comment from me.

Based on MEANING OF WORDS PROVIDED in *DICTIONARIES*!!!

Do you get it, cretin - WHY people do create dictionaries???

Naaaah... it seems you not. 'Cause you completely crazy cretin.

Yawn.

//by coming up with a very wrong interpretation of my words. Yawn

Maybe it's because your words really are wrong? %^P
)))))

That thought seems luke realky *never* have had visited yiur cranky nind -- that may do a mistake (same as dRump %^P).

//Qtard: And. AI answered:

Yeah.
Definitely -- crazy cranky mind you do posess.

I.

Was not.

Asking AI.

About pShaw's blog "rational duscussions".

I was asking about -- what it mean for discussion to be accounted as rational... IN GENERAL.

//Looks like your admission that you are unable to engage in rational discussion.

Yawn.

You can test it very easy.

Just ask AI same question -- "What mean "rational discussion"?

But.

Something tells me -- you'll *never* do this... ))))))

Yes.

Why not?

If for example some people started to build house on a quiksands... isn't that'd be benefitial to that SAME people -- if some stranger passing by would provide his alternative POV -- "hey, people! do you get that that is quicksands you trying to build your house at???"

So they -- that SAME people could fix their mistake early.

Or what? It'll be better for that SAME people to build it, try to live in it and die under rubbles when it'll collapse???

And WHO are evil in that case???

Passerby strangee that trying to warn?

Or that stupid ones -- that repel such warnings? Blocking em. Banning.
Not allowing ANY alternate views.

You also trying to call me cretin.
Yawn.
So, on what base you trying to criticize my words? ))))

If on base "calling anybody 'cretin' -- is wrong!!!"...
but you are wrongdoer yourself too -- in such a case. ;-p

So.

Your idea of "justice" falls on its face here.

Because you reserve right to call people 'cretins' (or whatever) -- and see nothing wrong in it.

But when other peopke use that right(naturally, as all people are equal) -- you start crying that they are evil.

PS BTW, that's exactly what happens at pShaw's... echochamber.
And that is what you call"rational discussiin" -- group of stupid people who like cursing at others... without backfire.

PPS Yawn.

Perfectly rational. ;-p

//Benito Mussolini was a prominent member of the Italian Socialist Party and editor of its official newspaper Avanti! in his early career, but he decisively broke with socialism and built fascism as a fiercely anti-socialist, nationalist ideology.

And what is so "anti-socialist" in it?

//Is Fascism a Socialist Ideology?
• Rejection of Marxism: Mainstream historians state that fascism is not a socialist or Marxist ideology. Fascism explicitly rejected core socialist tenets, including class struggle, internationalism, and the abolition of private property

Hah!
But, isn't that is the same YOU itself have had SAID -- you reject. %^P

Copilot: I would rate this comment as not credible and unsupported by available evidence. The central allegations about deleting 100,000 Trump ballots and counting 100,000 ballots from deceased or undocumented voters are not backed by the sources I found and are contradicted by election investigations and fact-checking reports.

Of course it "not backed by sources".
That is a CRIME. And criminals trying to HIDE evidances.
And that "Copilot" neither cop nor private detective. Not even journalist investigator.
To have any say -- is there evidances... or no.
