Ayup, the collective stupidity is known as Trumpism, Radical Evangelical Fundamentalism, Christian Nationalism. and Christian Zionism.

The four most destructive evils of the modern western world.

...when you exempt mythological "progressivism" (aka gnosticism) first, of course.

"Secular gnosticism" can refer to two main ideas:

first, the application of ancient Gnostic principles to secular political movements, where the pursuit of a utopian, "immanentized" future becomes a form of salvation and revolutionary activism, akin to the Marxist movement.

Second, it describes a modern, often atheistic worldview that adopts Gnostic themes, such as the belief that inner knowledge is superior to external reality, the discontent with the material world, and the search for freedom and self-realization through individual understanding, rather than through traditional religion.

Gnosticism in the Political Sphere

Immanentization of the Eschaton:

This concept, introduced by thinker Eric Voegelin, describes the modern tendency to try and achieve a final, perfect state (the "eschaton") in this world, rather than awaiting a future divine intervention.

Utopianism:

Secular gnosticism can manifest in political ideologies like Communism, where adherents believe they have special knowledge ("gnosis") of history's direction and act as agents to bring about a perfect future society, such as the "dictatorship of the proletariat".

Secular Gnosticism in a Personal Context

Rejection of External Authority:
.
Like its ancient counterpart, secular gnosticism emphasizes individual inner experience and knowledge over external rules or authority.

"Knowledge" as Salvation:
.
Instead of religious knowledge, the focus shifts to personal insights, intellectual "gnosis," or inner feelings that are considered the path to true self-understanding and fulfillment.

Critique of the Material World:
.
A Gnostic worldview often holds a negative view of the current material world as deceptive or corrupt, leading to a focus on the inner self as the true source of identity and goodness.

Inner Feelings Over External Reality:
.
There is a conviction that one's inner self or true identity should be expressed, even if it contradicts external circumstances or societal expectations.

In essence, secular Gnosticism takes the core idea of Gnosticism—that salvation comes through a special, inner knowledge—and applies it to non-religious contexts, whether it be political revolutionary movements or the personal quest for self-understanding in a secular age.

Christians and religions are evil to secular gnostics because they Katechonize the eschaton rather than immanetize it, like the secular gnostics want to do (in the name of "progress").

The eschaton... the "end times" in their utopian return to Eden. aka The Apocalypse.

The religious know that such times are not possible, so they katechonize (delay) the end times/ apocalypse.

How foolish of them, eh, Les?

Translated into more familiar political terms...

"Conservative, n: A statesman who is enamored of existing evils, as distinguished from the Liberal who wishes to replace them with others."

- Ambrose Bierce

Government: "an institution which prevents injustice other than such as it commits itself"

-Muqaddimah of Ibn Khaldun

Immanentize or Katechonize?... pick your poison.

As for me, I'm a RADICAL progressive. I favour a SMALL government, to prevent the evils they do from getting BIG.

As Hannah Arendt said about the "banality" of evil. It's the SYSTEM that makes everyone STUPID EVIL!
