Business Insider and Newsweek both recently ran some too good to be true articles about the coming legalization of shooting Trump supporters in the face, er, concerns of a military coup / mutiny and civil war if Trump runs and loses in 2024.
I think this is irresponsible pandering to those of us who wish Trump supporters were not mere pussy blowhards and an actual threat to put out of its misery.
Regardless, the DeSantis idea of a Florida State Guard in the context of hyperventilating generals warning of traitors in their ranks on deck to go apeshit if Trump loses 2024, I can see how this might have triggered illiterate people.
State militias are harmless. Glorified mall cops really. And no, the military couldn't give a shit about the next election.
Talking about modern state guards. They are mostly community service volunteers. Help organize parking for an event. They might pick up trash along the highway. Compared to the National Guard or the US Army proper, they tick the combat readiness box that reads "what are you smoking?"
...and that article is about a current National Guard unit, not a State Guard unit like DeSantis wants. Literally miles away from being the same thing.
...no, that would be the general civilian population. The guard mostly defends the political leadership against THEM as they inevitably fail n delivering on their pledged political promises..

ReplyDeleteCornwallis thought the same.
ps - Ever been to an "Old Guard Ball" in NYC? My FiL used to be a general in Harlem.

ReplyDeleteIf you say so.
ReplyDeletePsst. The year is 2021.
ReplyDelete...and that article is about a current National Guard unit, not a State Guard unit like DeSantis wants. Literally miles away from being the same thing.
ReplyDeleteOne's supported by the federal defense department budget. The other sells raffle tickets for turkey dinners
ReplyDeleteState Guard Units become National Guard Units when called up and Governors grant assent.
ReplyDelete...and it's currently under State control again.
ReplyDeleteMost members of State Guard Units are ex-military. My FiL was USMC in Korea, and NY State Guard after that ended.
ReplyDelete:P
ReplyDeleteThe least dangerous, least combat prepared auxillary to the military you could call upon to secure a cotton candy booth at the state fair.
ReplyDeleteThey're cosplayers.
