The Hollow Men by T. S. Eliot
Mistah Kurtz -- he dead.
A penny for the Old Guy
I
We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar
Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;
Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom
Remember us -- if at all -- not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.
II
Eyes I dare not meet in dreams
In death's dream kingdom
These do not appear:
There, the eyes are
Sunlight on a broken column
There, is a tree swinging
And voices are
In the wind's singing
More distant and more solemn
Than a fading star.
Let me be no nearer
In death's dream kingdom
Let me also wear
Such deliberate disguises
Rat's coat, crowskin, crossed staves
In a field
Behaving as the wind behaves
No nearer --
Not that final meeting
In the twilight kingdom
III
This is the dead land
This is cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man's hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.
Is it like this
In death's other kingdom
Waking alone
At the hour when we are
Trembling with tenderness
Lips that would kiss
Form prayers to broken stone.
IV
The eyes are not here
There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms
In this last of meeting places
We grope together
And avoid speech
Gathered on this beach of the tumid river
Sightless, unless
The eyes reappear
As the perpetual star
Multifoliate rose
Of death's twilight kingdom
The hope only
Of empty men.
V
Here we go round the prickly pear
Prickly pear prickly pear
Here we go round the prickly pear
At five o'clock in the morning.
Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the Shadow
For Thine is the Kingdom
Between the conception
And the creation
Between the emotion
And the response
Falls the Shadow
Life is very long
Between the desire
And the spasm
Between the potency
And the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the Shadow
For Thine is the Kingdom
For Thine is
Life is
For Thine is the
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.
Excellent vids, my friend.
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteTerrible vids.
ReplyDeleteThere is an ancient Sufi parable about coffee: "He who tastes, knows; he who tastes not, knows not."
ReplyDeleteYou've been drinking so much hot-MSM piss, you've lost your ability to taste.
ReplyDeleteYou've been drinking so much alternative fact piss, you've lost your ability to taste.
ReplyDeleteAu contraire, alternative facts come in many more flavours than over-baked and under-mixed MiniTru propaganda factoids.
ReplyDelete"Science, in the old sense, had almost ceased to exist. In Newspeak there is no word for science".
ReplyDeleteThus your hate for Anthony Fauci.
What legitimate "science" did Anthony Fauci ever do?
ReplyDeleteHe has dedicated his life to it.
ReplyDeletePushing papers isn't doing science.
ReplyDeleteNeither is researching and performing metastudies.
ReplyDeleteIt is.
ReplyDeleteSociologist Charles Murray must be a scientific GENIUS then!
ReplyDeleteHe needs to start wearing a white coat.
ReplyDelete...or put some skin in the game by mixing never-before-mixed chemicals in a lab.
ReplyDelete...or injecting the vaccine into HIMSELF ala "Jonas Salk" before mandating that the rest of us be his guinea pigs.
ReplyDeleteAs already mentioned, it is an ethical principle that the researcher should not inflict on volunteers anything that the researcher would not be willing to do to him- or herself, but the researcher is not always a suitable, or even possible, subject for the experiment. For instance, the researcher may be the wrong gender if the research is into hormone treatment for women, or may be too old, or too young. The ethical question for the researchers is would they agree to the experiment if they were in the same position as the volunteers?
ReplyDeleteNote the operative word above... "volunteers".
Sociologist Charles Murray must be a scientific GENIUS then!
ReplyDeleteI don't know. I do know he's a racist.
One who "follows the science" instead of denying it? lol!
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeleteYou sure like "cherry-picking" your science, eh, Dervy?
ReplyDeleteSure. I "cherry pick" actual science and dismiss pseudoscience.
ReplyDeletePseudoscience like the effect of CO^2 on global warming? LOL!
ReplyDeleteNo, pseudoscience like climate change denialism.
ReplyDeleteNobody denies climate change... just the reasons for it.
ReplyDeleteBullshit.
ReplyDeleteName a single person who believe's in the Homeostasis theory of Earth Climate.
ReplyDeleteThat is what I'm saying is bullshit. When the rest of us talk about climate change, that isn't what we're talking about. The climate change the rest of us are talking about is what you deny is happening.
DeleteYou own the definition of climate change? Where's your copyright filed?
ReplyDeleteI filed it the same place you went when you claimed ownership of "Democratic socialism". This would be the definition that allows you to say Bernie Sanders is secretly in favor of government owning the means of production.
ReplyDeleteFYI, I was talking about Anthropogenic climate change. But you knew this. You just play stupid. btw, "...the science on the human contribution to modern warming is quite clear. Humans emissions and activities have caused around 100% of the warming observed since 1950, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) fifth assessment report".
