1968: The Year Bourgeois American Values Replaced the Old International Marxist Left w/Cultural Capitalism

Pier Paulo Pasolini
"No Fascist centralism ever achieved what the centralism of consumer civilization has achieved"
- Pier Paolo Pasolini

from Google AI:
Pier Paolo Pasolini argued that consumer capitalism—or consumerism—acts as a "completed fascism" because it successfully achieves total cultural homogenization and social control that historical, political fascism could only dream of. [1, 2]
Why Consumerism is "Completed Fascism"
  • Totalizing vs. Totalitarian: Pasolini noted that classical 20th-century fascism was "totalitarian" in its political ambitions, but it was "not totalizing". It tried to control public life and institutions, but it left the underlying peasant, working-class, and regional subcultures of Italy largely intact.
  • The Power of Acculturation: Post-war consumer capitalism and mass media (like television) penetrated the private lives, inner thoughts, language, and desires of ordinary Italians. It reshaped the national character in ways Mussolini's dictatorship never managed to do.
  • Commoditing the Body: Consumerism reduces human bodies, relationships, and personalities to interchangeable commodities. Pasolini saw a sinister link between the mechanistic commodification of human life under consumerism and the atrocities of Nazism.
  • Eradicating Diversity: The relentless spread of a universal bourgeois lifestyle wiped out pre-industrial, traditional, and pluralistic ways of life, destroying the unique cultural diversity of Italy overnight. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]
The Illusion of Freedom
  • Conformity Disguised as Choice: In a consumer society, political and personal freedom is reduced to a superficial choice between brand names and commodities.
  • The Rise of the "Little Hitler": Pasolini argued that individualized consumerism turns everyone into an aggressive competitor ("little power seekers" or "little Hitlers") willing to crush others for social mobility and material comfort.
  • Loss of True Opposition: Because consumerism co-opts all desires and standardizes human behavior, it neutralizes authentic revolutionary or working-class resistance, leaving society trapped in a uniform, inescapable system.

  1. Oh look Mommy ! The Democratic Nazi fascist are calling the Republicans Nazi Fascists.

I’m not certain, but dont think the current Democratic Party is a fascist regime . I think thru history there has always been a struggle in the US between good and evil.
The US has led the world on ‘Progressive” enlightded policies. But there is also a darker side of the US and it is this Much More sinister side that holds sway at the moment.
You can trace it back to independence when the brits offeree freedom to tha slaves to revolt against their freedom loving overrlords.
As the country grew the Democrats grew more twards the left and the fascists took hold in the confederacy which was a nai regime.
After the war fascism held sway thru the evil Jm Crow laws.
It ran thru this century where Nazi voices were popular. Check out Father Coughlin and the German bund who were all in for Hitler.

Macarthy was a Nazi I'm sure you could name many others, except now that the “New Democratic Socialisrs took over.
Now they are back in the form of Hakeem Jeffries, Alexandria Ocasio -Cortezand, and Cory Booker.
Its not terminal and at this stage America can still be saved. But it explains why the whole world no longer looks to the US for leadership. Not since the Muslims took over.

    2. That's because the the orange turd trump is a huge fascist and he put his already mildly fascist party on steroids.

It is now on par with Italy's fascist party of the 1920's and1930's.

    4. And what is so bad about fascism?

And why lefties like to conflate it with Nazism, proclaiming em being the same?

While same time not seeing glaring similarity of both -- with communism?

      %^P

      Isn't that -- is just a propaganda?

    5. Summary

Fascism in Mussolini's Italy was harmful because it stripped human beings of their fundamental rights—freedom of thought, political representation, and personal autonomy—while elevating state-sponsored violence and aggressive warfare into virtues. It proved that a system built on absolute power inherently requires the oppression of its own citizens and the violent conquest of others.

PS So, basicly. "Fascism" is... what Socialists want to achieve.

    6. That is bullshit. Democratic Socialism is not authoritarian. Top down rightwing Fascist dictatorship is. It's why all billionaire oligarchs (like Musk) are fascists. Fascists support authoritarian governments and authoritarian governments support fascism. It' has always been as such. Mussolini to Hitler to trump.

    9. Authoritarianism is the problem. Period.

Using the capitalist's chosen labels to demonize every other economic system is the pinnacle example of self preservation efforts.

It works on the sleeping. Which is what authoritarians of all stripes depend on.

trump is an authoritarian and MAGAs are his sleeping sheeple.

Or they was "good socialists"? %^P

Qtard proving how stupid he is AGAIN.

Stalin and Mao were both terrible socialists.

      Via Gemini...

[Reasons Stalin and Mao were terrible socialists]

      • Totalitarian Rule: Critics, including democratic socialists, anarchists, and capitalist historians, state that both leaders established totalitarian regimes characterized by extreme repression, surveillance, and a powerful cult of personality.

      • Human Cost: Historians document that Stalin's forced collectivization and Mao's policies like the Great Leap Forward resulted in catastrophic man-made famines and millions of deaths.

      • Betrayal of Liberation: Opponents within the broader political spectrum argue that mass purges, labor camps, and the elimination of democratic workers' control fundamentally contradicted the core socialist goal of human liberation.

      [What socialism really means]

For the vast majority of people, the term "socialist" implies working toward equality, human liberation, and the well-being of the working class.

From this viewpoint, Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong failed completely because...

      • Mass Casualties: Their economic policies and forced collectivization led to catastrophic famines (like the Soviet famine of 1932–1933 and the Great Leap Forward) that killed tens of millions of people.

      • Authoritarianism: They replaced capitalist oppression with total state control, executing political rivals and eliminating personal freedoms.🛑

    11. Yep. Because "socialism" that is a lie -- to grab authiritarian power.

      Yawn.

But on such a cretuns as yiu bith -- that lies and propaganda works *perfectly* -- because of your cretinism you believe in some "goid socialism" --although History showed that there us NONE.

      But... continue-contunue, cretins. ))))

    12. Yeah, authoritarian leaders have promised socialism. But lied and many people died. It worked because people love socialism and want it badly. As history has proven, when democratically elected leaders (who can be voted out) deliver socialism, it makes people very happy.

    14. Homeric laughter (or Homeric mirth) refers to loud, uncontrollable, and inextinguishable laughter, typically shared by a large group of people.
The phrase originates from the epic poems of Homer—specifically the Iliad and the Odyssey—where it is used to describe the thunderous, mocking, or celebratory laughter of the Olympian gods.

      🏛️ The Mythological Origins

In Homer's works, the gods do not merely chuckle; they laugh with a cosmic, uncontainable force (asbestos gelos, literally "extinguishable laughter"). Two famous episodes define this concept:
      • The Iliad (Book 1): The blacksmith god Hephaestus notices a tense, bitter argument between Zeus and Hera. To break the tension and restore peace on Mount Olympus, Hephaestus takes over the role of the cupbearer, limping and bustling around to serve nectar to the gods. The sight of the lame, physically deformed god acting as a graceful servant causes the gods to burst into sudden, endless, and booming laughter.
      • The Odyssey (Book 8): The god of war, Ares, and the goddess of love, Aphrodite, are having a secret affair. Aphrodite’s husband, Hephaestus, crafts an invisible, unbreakable net to trap them in bed together. He then invites the other gods to witness the trap. Seeing the two powerful deities caught completely helpless, the gods erupt into massive, mocking laughter at their expense.

      💡 Key Characteristics

Homeric laughter carries specific connotations that distinguish it from standard humor:
      • Inextinguishable: It is loud, long-lasting, and consumes the entire room.
      • Cruel or Mocking: It is rarely gentle. It almost always occurs at someone else's expense, highlighting weakness, deformity, or embarrassment.
      • Collective: It represents a shared social experience that bonds the group doing the laughing, while alienating the target.
      • Divine Disconnect: In the epics, it emphasizes the distance between gods and humans. While humans suffer in the Trojan War, the immortal gods feast and laugh uncontrollably at petty dramas.

      🗣️ Modern Usage

Today, the term is used in literature and formal English to describe roaring, unbridled laughter in human settings. For example, if a politician makes a massive gaffe on stage and the entire auditorium erupts into booming, uncontrollable mockery, that is Homeric laughter.
